What I'm Reading Now

I have become addicted to biographies. My latest venture is Titan by Ron Chernow. I like it so far, but it is a little overwhelming. I think I may need to take a break from it and read something else for a little while. There is a lot of stuff in it that I am not that familiar with. It really gets into the development of Rockefellers' business empire, and some of it is a little over my head. I enjoy the characters, and it has been interesting to see the birth of a monoply. Hopefully I can make it to the end of the book.

Let me know how you like it. I'm always looking for a good biography. I recommend reading the one about John Adams, can't remember the author. Then read one about Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton to get the contrasting viewpoints. Fascinating people.

I am actually working on a post about an Alexander Hamilton biography. I have read a lot of the founding father ones. They're among my favorite books. I haven't gotten to the John Adams one yet, but I think we have it.

Our library does a summer reading program that I like to participate in. One of the categories is biographies. I was thinking about reading one on Mao. Now I'll have to flip a coin -- heads for Hamilton, tails for Mao. Wow! That's fitting. I just flipped a penny with Alyson and Katie as witnesses. It came up tails. Guess I'll have to read Hamilton in the fall.

I've been wanting to read one on Mao, too. I've had my eye on 'Mao, the unknown story': http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0679422714/sr=8-1/qid=1148391865/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-7841124-2514359?%5Fencoding=UTF8

I don't know if you are interested in the time period, but there is a great biography of Joan of Arc I read a few years back. I can't find my copy now, but I'm pretty sure it was this one:

I like any kind of biography. I'll have to add that to my list of books to read.
