So, I have been sick this week. I haven't been able to exercise. There goes my goal for this week. I'm hoping I'll feel better soon, so I can do my goal next week. I was going to do it. Really. I'm too sick to exercise.

My goal for next week is to exercise 5 days. We are going on vacation the end of July, and it would be nice to lose at least a little weight . If only I had more self-control. I hate exercising. I have been exercising 3 days a week. This week was an exception because Claire has been sick, and I haven't been very motivated to do it. So, 5 days next week should be no problem, right? Ugh. I'm hoping by posting this, I'll be more motivated. We'll see.

The other day I was talking to Ben about how, as I'm getting older, the music I like has changed. I've noticed I can't take it when a song takes more than 15 seconds to get going. I've noticed I'm listening to a lot faster music. More often than not, I'm listening to indie, punk, or pop-punk music. I do on occasion feel like listening to slower music, but it's usually not in my regular rotation.
Here is a list of music I'm listening to now. 1.) Smoking Popes (I have to force myself not to listen to them) 2.) Morrissey (usually thought of as slow, but can get pretty rockin') 3.) Hippos (kids love them) 4.) Cinerama (love bittersweet pop) 5.) They Might Be Giants (kids love them) 6.) Too Much Joy (old favorite) 7.) Smashing Pumpkins (older faster stuff) 8.) Arcade Fire (not sure how to catergorize them) 9.) Quasi (one of Ben's suggestions that I like) 10.) Lots of miscellaneous other stuff I always thought as I got older my music taste would mellow out. Strange. I used to be a big fan of The Cure, but now I seldom listen to them. Not that I don't like them, I'm just never in the mood to listen to them. Maybe I'll end up being a grandma with a pink mohawk. I have had pink hair before. Tuesday, May 23. 2006
I think most of the readers of my blog know that our house is up for sale. It has been a very frustrating time. It's been for sale close to 2 months now, and still no sign of an offer. We are not in a hurry to move, but we are really excited to find a bigger house.
For me the worst part of this whole 'house for sale' thing is that I have to clean. Not that I didn't clean before, but this is more than I can take. It is a struggle to get out of bed because I know I need to make the bed, clean any dishes from the night before, walk through the house and clean up any messes the kids made, dust, clean smudges off windows, and vaccum. All of this has to be done before 10 a.m, when people can start coming to look at the house. I am not a super mom/wife. I do not enjoy cleaning. What makes it worse is that--for 2 months now I have had to clean and we haven't received a single offer. So now instead of it just being hard to get going in the morning, I get depressed at night because I had to clean for nothing. Cleaning isn't all that bad. It is nice to have a clean house. It would just be nicer if I didn't have to do it. Friday, May 19. 2006
One of my favorite biographies is Alexander Hamilton by Rob Chernow. I have really enjoyed the founding father biographies, but this one is my favorite so far. It was a pretty easy read for a biography. Like many of the other founding fathers, his accomplishments are astounding. What I like about this book is, at times, it almost reads like a soap opera. There was parental misconduct, adultery, bribes, and adventure. Who doesn't love a good duel ? This was a book in where I actually had to hold back tears at the end. I need to read this one again.

I have become addicted to biographies. My latest venture is Titan by Ron Chernow. I like it so far, but it is a little overwhelming. I think I may need to take a break from it and read something else for a little while. There is a lot of stuff in it that I am not that familiar with. It really gets into the development of Rockefellers' business empire, and some of it is a little over my head. I enjoy the characters, and it has been interesting to see the birth of a monoply. Hopefully I can make it to the end of the book.

Welcome to my blog. Thanks to Ben who helped me get set up and started.
What I want to write about: 1.) What books I'm reading and have read. 2.) Miscellaneous day to day ramblings. 3.) Odd occurrences. 4.) Complaining. 5.) Music related topics. 6.) Things I want to remember. |
