Thursday, July 27. 2006 I have been doing pretty bad the past week and a half. I've been eating too much junk, and not exercising enough. My walking goal has been ignored, and I barely squeezed out my 3 days of aerobics this week. I thought my upcoming vacation would be a great motivator. That didn't work. I feel like I'm in a funk. I saw a recent picture of myself, that was quite depressing. How does one acquire self-control? I am not very good at it. I always daydream.....If only I was rich and could afford a personal trainer, or a personal chef. Not even posting about it on my blog has helped. Maybe if I knew heaven was full of fried food, cheese, and chocolate. That may help. Then it would be worth the torture of eating/preparing healthy food. Friday, July 21. 2006 I was inspired by another family blogger to post about gift giving. Every once and a while I get great ideas for presents. Some of them have been surprises. Most of my best ones have been to Ben. Here are some gifts I enjoyed giving: To Ben:
After deciding to get them a trip to Belgium, I began to think of ways to present the gift to them. I bought a wooden crate from a craft store. I painted it to looked distressed. I got a tour guide book on Belgium. I got a box of nice Belgium chocolates. I got a little lock box that you use to put money in. I put the airplane tickets in the lock box. I layered everything in the wooden crate, which I had filled with shredded paper. First they were to open the chocolates, then the book, then the tickets. I think by the time they got to the tickets, there weren't many dry eyes. My mom had never been out of the U.S., and it had been over 30 years since my Dad had been to Belgium to visit his family. I would definetly say that was my all-time favorite gift giving. Lately, all I've had the energy to think of are gift cards. I've lost the brain power to think of anything unique. For the past 2 years I have been going to a church sponsered aerobics group. It's been 3 days a week. I don't always go every day, but more often than not, I do. We have a lady (a ward member) who used to be an aerobics instructor, teaching the class. She is about 6 months pregnant. Needless to say, our classes have become less vigorous. I think we all have lost our excitement for exercising. (At least our instructor has a reason
For the past few weeks I've been wanting to start walking in the mornings, before Ben goes to work. Today I finally did it. I'm hoping I'll be able to work up to an hour a day. Today I did 40 minutes. I'd like to do it Monday-Saturday, and still attend aerobics as well. That may be a little over zealous of me, but we'll see. I really enjoyed my walk this morning. I like being able to exercise without kids interrupting every 5 minutes. I took my mp3 player. It's nice to be able to enjoy listening to my music. Usually the only time I get to listen to music, is when I drive the kids around. That isn't the same as being by yourself and listening to music. Also, our neighborhood has pretty nice paths to walk on, and it's pretty shady. I hope I can keep this up. Wednesday, July 12. 2006
Our house is still up for sale. We have reduced our price for the 3rd time. We are also paying closing costs. To make things worse there is a good chance our neighbors house could go up for sale in the near future (maybe even in the next week!). To rub it in a little more, the house we really like has just reduced it's price by $25,000! We are having another open house on Saturday. So, If any of my religious readers want to pray that we sell our house this weekend, that would be great.

I am not a fan of summer.
Here are some reasons why: -It's way too hot. To make things worse it's humid. -I'm not that big of a beach fan. -I don't like salt water, and I don't like waves. -Lakes are fine. -I have fair skin, so I have to use a lot of sunscreen. -I have kids, so I have to put sunscreen on them. -Kids are home from school. (can be good or bad) -I don't like swimming in public places. -I don't like the clothes I have to wear in the summer. ------------------------------------------- Fall is my favorite season. Here are some reasons why: -I get to wear sweaters, but it's not too cold. -The leaves change color. -I love the clean brisk air of autumn. It's so invigorating. -I love the smell of autumn. -My birthday is in the fall. -I love to watch the sunset on a clear fall day. Sunsets go so well with fall foliage. -Kids are back in school. Jake started a fencing camp this week. He had been taking gymnastics for about 2 years. Elise has been doing gymnastics for over 3 years. Lately we have been trying to think of something for Jake to do that would be a little cheaper. Elise is in the level 4 class, and each level she's gone up has cost us more. Right now her class is really expensive.
So...I signed Jake up for this fencing camp. Fencing is a little cheaper, and I think it is really cool. Jake does not like starting new things. I was worried because right before the class today he did not want to go. It took a lot of convincing to get him there. But we did make it there, and he seemed to enjoy it. As an observer, I though it looked really cool. I plan on taking a bunch of pictures. Jake looked so cool in the fencing equipment. When I get some pics I'll try to get them posted. If he makes it through this week at camp, I think I'll sign him up for regular classes. Friday, July 7. 2006
A few years ago I found this website, Makeup Alley. It has reviews of all kinds of beauty products (makeup, hair styling products, lotions, hair dyes, etc). You can search by brand or category. I have found a lot of good products from this site. I love sites that have reviews. It makes me feel a lot better about purchasing things.
Another cool thing about this website is that they have the "MUA Top Picks". These are the highest rated products. I use that part of the site the most. It's also great because the reviews often mention what type of hair or skin the product works best with. You do have to register to use the site. Registration is free. Wednesday, July 5. 2006
Here are some good guinea pig websites:
http://www.ahc.umn.edu/rar/MNAALAS/GPig.html -Good basic care tips. Even has an illustration on how to pick one up. http://web.onetel.net.uk/~petergurney/atozmainpage.htm -Good for health problem info. This guy knows a lot about guinea pigs. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0793831512/ref=wl_it_dp/102-1318959-9625707?%5Fencoding=UTF8&colid=3HJESQJJYAKG7&coliid=IEXXUZ7MKKXXJ&v=glance&n=283155 -Buy this book. It's suppose to be the best GP book. http://www.guinealynx.com/healthycavy.html --Good basic care site. http://www.gorgeousguineas.com/products.html --This is where I buy my pigs shampoo. I have also bought treatments for their skin problems from them. Tips from me: -Don't use pine bedding. It can cause respiratory problems and it can be bad for their feet. -If your pig is losing weight, something is wrong. Check their teeth. GP's teeth can get too long and it makes it hard to impossible to eat. -If you have kids around who are not familiar with how to treat a GP, keep an eye on them. Picking them up and dropping them is not a good thing. -Don't look at just one website for info. Some sites contradict others. Look at several to make sure you are getting the right info. -We bathe our pigs once a month. Wednesday, July 5. 2006
We just got a new guinea pig. This is our 4th. Our first was Alice. She died a couple weeks ago. We had her for 3 1/2 years. Then we got Mimi. I'm pretty sure Mimi was sick when we got her from the pet store. She died a few months after we got her. Our 3rd pig is Pooky. She is still alive. Ben and I were pretty upset when Alice died, more so than the kids. We debated wether we should get another one, or just get rid of Pooky and be done with pets for a while. We deciced to get another pig.
Guinea Pigs are social animals. They are happier when they have other guinea pig friends around. If we were going to keep Pooky, we would need to get her a friend. Ben took the kids to the pet store and bought Buffy. Her full name being: Buffy The Guinea Pig Slayer Rasmussen. The kids named her. (I suggested Buffy or Spike). The kids came up with the middle name. Buffy is really cute. Usually we get short hair pigs. Buffy is a spiky haired one. Her and Pooky get along really well. Guinea Pigs are awesome pets. They are pretty easy to take care of, and they are really cute. Having had 2 sick pigs, I've done a lot of research on them. I've learned a lot. The internet has some great GP websites. I would love to some day have a guinea pig compound. A big place to have a bunch of them running around, squeeking and being cute. As soon as I figure how to post some pics, I'll post some of our pigs. |
