Holiday Traditions

I stole the idea for this post from booklogged (Ben's Aunt). I love to hear about other peoples holiday traditions, so I thought I'd post some holiday Q & A's.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate? Definetly Hot Chocolate. Egg Nog is gross.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree? Usually wrapped, ocasionally if it's a really big present ,it won't be wrapped.

3. Colored lights on tree/house or white? Colored. White is so boring. I love festive trees.

4. Do you hang mistletoe? Nope. Never have.

5. When do you put your decorations up? Usually the first half of December. For some reason, it always takes me forever to actually do it.

6. What is your favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)? My mom's stuffing. It is really good. It has sausage in it. Ben deosn't like sausage ,so I don't usually eat it.

7. Favorite Holiday memory as a child? Every Christmas we usually had a big breakfast. Most of the time we would run to 7 eleven on Christmas morning and grab whatever we needed to fix breakfast. Also, I always loved decorating the tree as a kid. Even though I'm pretty sure my Mom would come and rearrange everything after the kids did it. One more was, at some point my dad started changing the names on the presents to the names of the three stooges so we couldn't figure out whose presents were whose. (There were 3 kids in my family.) We would try and figure out which stooge we were. Very amusing in a "I'm going to torture my kid's" way.

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa? Not sure. I think I just figured it out at some point.

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve? Yes. As a kid we always opened one. Usually one from an aunt, uncle, or grandparent. Now, with my kids ,they open pajamas on Christmas Eve.

10. How do you decorate your Christmas Tree? We use colored lights and all the ornaments I've collected over the past 10 years. I don't do really fancy trees. A lot of my ornaments have a country-ish feel.

11. Snow! Love it or Dread it? I like nice fluffy snow. I hate the slushy nasty snow.

12. Can you ice skate? Never been ice skating. I do like to roller blade, which I hear is similar.

13. Do you remember your favorite gift? Hmmm. As a kid it probablly would have been my first hamster. My parents actually wrapped the cage with the hamster in it. On Christmas morning I could hear faint scratching noises as I waited my turn to open it. As an adult, probablly the book Ben gave me last year. He tried so hard to remember a book I had pointed out to him at Borders, and totally bought the wrong book. When he gave it to me I had no idea why he had bought this book. When he realized it was the wrong book, it was pretty amusing.

14. What’s the most important thing about the Holidays for you? Being with family is a biggy. Feeling the Chritmas spirit and remembering why we celebrate Christmas. Also, watching my kids on Christmas morning is awesome.

15. What is your favorite Holiday Dessert? Apple Pie. The kind I make. I found the recipe online a few years ago, and it is THE BEST APPLE PIE EVER! Nicole will agree with me, she makes it too. Pumpkin pie is good too.

16. What tops your tree? I think it's a silver star. I've been meaning to replace it, but I can't remember if I ever did.

17.Which do you prefer giving or receiving? That's tough. They are pretty equal. I like giving, if it's something I've thought about, and if it's something unique. I always like receiving!

18. What is your favorite Christmas Song? What Child is This.

19. Candy Canes! Yuck or Yum?? Totally Yuck! I am not a fan. My kids don't like them either. For some reason I stiil hang them on my tree every Christmas Eve when the kids go to sleep.

I love the 3 stooges idea. What a hoot!
I agree about watching the kids open presents. Christmas is better when there are children involved. Now that you've mentioned that BEST EVER apple pie you are going to have to share the recipe with the rest of us. Maybe you could do a post with the recipe?

I loved your list. Maybe I'll do it on my blog as some of my answers are quite different from yours. We just had an enrichment activity where we told about our favorite holiday traditions. It was fun to come home and read some more. Also loved the 3 Stooges idea. I just wrapped all Jordan's in green and Cassie's in red and left all the labels. They never figured it out until I told them on Christmas morning.
